先月行われていたSALAの会場であったこのグリーナウェイ・アート・ギャラリー。いつも通勤途中に通っていた建物だったけど、まさかこんな素敵なギャラリーだったとは! コンテンポラリーアートを展示するギャラリーというのがこのアデレードでは少なく、ここはとても貴重な存在だと思う。この場所を知る事ができてよかった。
Greenaway Art Gallery was one of the SALA venues last month. I always passed by the building on my way to and from work, but I had no idea that it was such a nice gallery like that! It’s a very cool thing since shamefully there’s only a few contemporary art galleries in Adelaide. It was lucky to find the place.
雑誌Eight:48が届きました。カバーのイラストから分かるように、私の大好きなテイストが満載です。新聞紙スタイルなところがまた良し。電車で経済新聞とかを小難しげな顔をしながら読んでいる人達に紛れてひとりこんな素敵なデザイン新聞を読んでいる人がいたら面白いな、なんて想像します。中でもmillergoodmanの特集が特に気に入っています。彼らの木製のおもちゃは大人でも欲しくなる作品で、ShapeMakerなんて見た瞬間に恋に落ちたような感覚。こういうデザイン&アート性の高いおもちゃは子供の右脳的感性をすくすくと成長させるんだろうな。
Eight:48 has arrived in the house. There’re many things I like in this magazine, which you can tell from the lovely cover illustration. Their newspaper format makes it more interesting, too. I imagine this funny situation: one person is reading this awesome design newspaper surrounded by people who are reading complicated ones like a financial paper, with complicated looks on the train. The ace article is definitely millergoodman for me. Their wooden toys are fantastic, which attract not only kids but also adults like us. When I first saw their ShapeMaker, I was easily in love with it. I’m sure toys like that which are beautifully designed and have got a great taste of art will improve children’s right brain sense so well.
ずっと待ちわびていました、この時を。大好きなRob Ryanのティータオルが付録で付いてくるInside Outの発売です。グレー、グリーン、ネイビーと3色ある中からまずはネイビーを選びました。もちろん他の色も買いますよ〜。 Rob Ryanが造り出す美しい切り絵の世界はとてもロマンティック、繊細さと暖かさに溢れています。作品の全てが彼１人の手から産まれ、1枚の紙に命が吹き込まれます。その完成度の高さは本当にため息もの。素晴らしい形容を見つけました、”現代のシザーハンズ”、まさにそれが彼の姿なんです。ロンドンにある彼のお店に行くのが私の夢でもあります。 目指せ有言実行ですね、ハイ。
I’ve been waiting for this moment — the release of the issue of Inside Out magazine, with my favourite artist Rob Ryan’s tea towel. I picked up navy one from 3 different colours (gray, green and navy). Of course, I’ll get other, too. His beautiful paper cutting creation is amazingly romantic, full of sensitivities and warmnesses. Everything is done by his hands, he puts a life into a paper. The quality is beyond the word. I’ve encountered this wonderful description of him, “the Edward Scissor Hands of today,” yes, that’s what he’s about. One of my dreams is going to his shop in London. I’ll make it happen!
Herb & Dorothyは日本人女性監督によるドキュメンタリー映画で、60年代初期から現代美術作品を収集しているアートコレクターカップルのお話です。ハーブは郵便局勤めでドロシーは図書館勤め、そんな２人がコツコツと集めていったコレクションの価値は数百万ドルにまでなったそうです!!! 今でもNYの小さなアパートに亀と猫と魚、そしてワシントンのナショナル・ギャラリー・オブ・アートにコレクションを寄贈した後に新たに収集したアートの数々と共に暮らしている２人。純粋にアートを愛する姿は私もこんな風に心豊かに生きていくことができたらいいなと思わせてくれるのでした。このアデレードで上映される日が訪れるのでしょうか。きっとDVDを買うのが賢い選択なのかな・・・。
Herb & Dorothy is a documentary film directed by a Japanese woman, which is a story about the legendary art collector couple who have been collecting contemporary art since the early 60s. Herb worked for a post office and Dorothy worked for a library—that sounds they were an ordinary couple, but their entire collection over the years became worth millions of dollars!!! They’re still living in the same small apartment in NY with turtles, fish and a cat, and importantly new art pieces which they started collecting again after donating their collection to National Gallery of Art, Washington. Their pure love towards art is simply wonderful and their soul-enriched life impresses me so much. I’d love to live like them. I don’t know if the film hits Adelaide one day. Maybe, it’d be wise to buy its DVD…
